New Jersey Consumer Protection Law

Claims Against Home Improvement Contractors

Stacks Image 618
New Jersey has an array of laws meant to protect homeowners against unscrupulous home improvement contractors. The Consumer Fraud Act (CFA), Door-to-Door Home Repair Sales Act, Truth in Consumer Contract Warranty and Notice Act, and Home Repair Financing Act are a few of the laws that apply to home improvement contracts and contractors.

A violation of these laws may render a home improvement contract unenforceable - that means that the contractor cannot sue the homeowner for breach of contract. Further, a violation may result in the contractor being required to pay the homeowner three times (treble) the damages suffered by the homeowner and may also require the contractor to pay the homeowner's attorney fees.

If you have a dispute with a home improvement contractor, you should work with an attorney who has both knowledge of consumer protection laws and experience taking consumer protection cases to trial.

If you have a dispute with a home improvement contractor, you should contact Michael Millar, Esq.

Consumer Lawyer

We are experienced consumer protection attorneys. We have handled approximately 200 cases involving consumer protection claims, including claims made under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act (CFA). We have represented both plaintiffs and defendants and has also handled class action matters. The CFA is a very powerful litigation tool, which provides that a prevailing plaintiff is entitled to treble (3X) damages and attorney fees. Because We have represented both plaintiffs and defendants, we understand the tactics and strategy typically employed by the other party in such disputes.

Trial Lawyer

We are trial lawyers and commercial litigators. We represent clients in both state and federal courts. We can represent you or your business. When engaging in litigation, you need experienced, skilled and aggressive representation. You need an attorney who knows how to properly conduct discovery, is sensitive to the expense incurred by you and who knows how to present your case to a judge and a jury. We treat every case as if it is going to trial - and we know how to conduct a trial if your case cannot be settled. Many attorneys know how to settle a case, few know how to try one.
